Back to the Usual

The weekend came and went. My return flight from Hong Kong got delayed, which spoilt Anita's plan to pick me up at the airport with the boys. By the time I came out of the departure hall, the boys were already cranky being there for almost 3 hours. But they had already had dinner and were aware that my flight would be delayed.

At least I didn't have to go around looking for taxi that evening. However the delay caused me to miss the first half of the Manchester derby. Unpacking came next and it was well past midnight when I finally got to sleep.

Monday morning was rather easy going as I didn't have any inpatient and my clinic was in the afternoon. So, I took the time to have a late breakfast in Bangsar while sorting out some personal banking matters. By the time I reached home that evening, I was already spent and couldn't wait to get straight to bed.

Back for the usual routine then, especially when one of my colleagues would be away for the weekend. I also had a medical call coming ....

A Quick Breakfast

I had an hour or so to spare after my ward round this morning before leaving for the airport. The boys were still in bed, so I called Puan Anita up telling her to get dressed and we had a quick drive towards Petaling Street for breakfast at the rustic Merchant's Lane.

It was the first time that Anita been there and she was really impressed. She spent most of the times taking photos and messaging her friends about the place. I would not be surprised if they would be spending a few mornings there in the coming weeks.

The place was still relatively empty when we arrived within half an hour of opening. I took her to the seats at the back, more secluded and more cosy. We had a lovely coffee and meal, and it was a shame that we had to leave so soon. I had a plane to catch ....

Another Call

Another call today before I would be off to Bangkok this weekend for a talk. And there would be a stem cell infusion this afternoon to keep me occupied.

To prepare for the long day, best to have some breakfast before the clinic starts. So, here we go!

Hi-tech Mamak

Hi-tech Mamak : While waiting for my number to come up at the Immigration Office, I went for a quick breakfast at a mama restaurant at the end of the row - Ali Maju it was called.

Sat down, had my order called, and the fella taking the order were keying them onto an Android tablet on his hands. He then handed me a smart card for me to take to the cashier later when I wanted to check out!

The food came in quite slowly however, so I was’t really sure if such a complicated system helped in the end of the day. Maybe during hectic hours it might do …. but it was impressive none the less. Maybe Apple Pay would be coming next ….

Three Little Birds Coffee

During my series of meetings last week, I ended up having breakfast at this cute cafe on two consecutive morning. A highly rated cafe from what I heard, where they ground their imported coffee beans themselves and share them among their three branches. The branch at d& was their main, and the warehouse where they do the grounding sat right behind this shop.

Surprisingly, they open very early by KL standard at 8 am. They had some bagel and croissant, but the early breakfast choices in terms of food was pretty limited. But what ever on offer did not disappoint.

The thing I like most about the cafe was the ambiance. The quiet early morning, with water features all around brought tranquility despite the early morning traffic barely 50 meters away. You soon forget the time of the morning, and the next thing you know, it was already time for the meeting.

The coffee? Nothing special. The mocha was quite nice, but I have tasted better. Certainly of a higher quality than your average chain cafe. As mentioned, food choices was rather limited - not the place to have a hearty breakfast, and certainly no roti canai!

A nice place to drop by during busy schedule but certainly I would not go out of my way here just for the coffee. But in terms of tranquility, it was great .....
