Sluggish Access

Since Wednesday morning, the loading time for the blog had lagged tremendously through my broadband connection. It fared better on P1 and LTE. If just be some peering issue with Time Fibre.

I had plenty of updates to do from my trip last week and with such slow connection, it was just too painful.

Hopefully it improved by today as I won't be able to spend too much time next week with work stepping up a gear into full swing. Let's hope that the lag disappears.

Painting Time

I watched Irfan doing his computer project last weekend and was fascinated by the amount of knowledge these seven year-olds actually have concerning computer. And the computer system at his school used both Macs and PCs, and since the main computer was a Mac, he was able to adapt to both system.

First, he composed the paintingSend it to the printerMake sure things were in orderThe task given was to use either Microsoft Paint, or another free software for Mac - Tug Paint I think it was called - to do a drawing, print them and submit them.

Clips

Spent the morning editing out the video featuring one of my patients for a patient support group meet at Hospital Ampang later today. The whole process went well without any hiccups. Previously I was more versed with Final Cut Pro rather than iMovie. Clearly using the latest tweak made iMovie just as feature-laden as Final Cut, well at least to the amateurs like myself.

File transfer from my 7D was faster than I expected even though I shot the clips in 1080p. The main drawback was synchronising the audio. Final Cut definitely have more precision tools on board. Otherwise, transition, audio fading and lower-thirds went without a hitch. Exporting was also quite easy as everything was integrated in the iLife suite. I used iDVD for the final output and am now enjoying the output on screen.

Now I have to go through the clips I shot during the recent Raya trip.

New lecture hall, but Mac incompatible

I replaced my colleague yesterday for a lecture and as usual, I was planning to use my MacBook Pro. Got everything ready, connected the Mac to the projector ... then walla! Nothing happens. What?

Fiddled around, tried another connection port, still no joy. Hmmm! Never had this problem and the old lecture hall were all accommodating. This being a brand new one really disappointed me. I'll make a note to sneak in one of these days and check the connection. Even the technician stared at me blankly when I asked if there has been any issues before.

Did the decent thing of converting the file into powerpoint and use the auditorium's computer. The slides came out all wonky, but that is better than nothing.
