Sunday Afternoon

After a hectic week, Sunday could not come much sooner, and surprisingly, I had some time to enjoy for myself. I had been a chauffeur for Anita earlier in the day, driving her for her college meet-up in Cheras. Had lunch there after doing my ward round, and by 3pm, things were already sorted for the day.

So, Anita and I went to Bukit Bintang, and more specifically Pavilion.

There were a couple of arts event happening in KL last weekend. One was at KLPAC, The Inaugural Sime Darby Arts Festival. I wanted to go there but the combination of bad weather and bad timing just made that trip difficult. So, I went to the alternative - KakiSeni Arts Festival held at Pavilion. The Kakiseni event ran until Malaysia Day, so I could've catch up with that later in the week. Shame that the KLPAC event only lasted the weekend. That actually looked much more interesting to be quite honest.

But, able to go to one was better than nothing. I couldn't hang around for too long though as my in-laws would be out for dinner and somebody needed to stay home with the boys. I preferred an early night as well since United was playing later that night and I would be on call the next day.

So, I managed to catch a couple of performance. The problem was space at Pavilion was a premium. Getting one spot to another could be a pain since Pavilion was essentially a shopping mall. The outside terraces got crowded very quickly once an event start.

Hopefully there would be similar events organised for next year. And hopefully it was on separate weekends ....

The Afternoon Walk

After doing my duty - of chauffeuring Puan Anita to meet her friends in town - I had some free time to spend with my camera. With the gorgeous weather and all, I thought I'd go to Pavilion. I get to do some street photography, and also to had a quick walk around Low Yat.

Not much to see as next week would be a big one in tech world. Motorola and Sony had made their announcements of new product earlier in the week. Next week would be Apple's turn, the rumoured iPhone 6, and maybe some wearable products. A much anticipated announcement since the original iPad.

What did I notice? The street vendors were peddling selfie sticks everywhere! Something expected I supposed. Kakiseni would be holding their street art exhibit next weekend, so around Pavilion, there was not much going on. Off to Low Yat then ....

Surface Pro 3 was finally released, but according to the vendors, the sales were pretty slow. It was either due to the price or buyers were waiting for the Apple announcement next week. Either way, it was not shifting. Neat product though, and as I mentioned, I would have snapped it if it was available with LTE option. But since it was carrying an Intel rather than Tegra chip, the chance for that would be pretty small. The vendor suggested using a dongle. But that would just reduce its portability. Once you've used an LTE tablet, there was no turning back.

The Merdeka spirit was still palpableI suspected that this had something to do with the lantern festivalThere was not much alternative when it comes to laptop with built-in LTE chip.

I wonder what it would be like a month from now, after we got the announcements out of the way ....

Thursday Morning Stroll

After cancelling my clinics on Thursdays, practically freeing it for myself, Thursday had never been completely free. This morning, I forced myself to take some down time. I ended up having a nice breakfast at the hospital, and took a drive towards Bukit Bintang.

Checking out Low Yat, when the place was practically empty put a different spin on things. I managed to walk around without much hassle.

My main plan was to pay my credit card and mobile bills, and to check out the Surface Pro 3.

They were just been available in Malaysia, but only the wifi versions were available. There were no plans for an LTE unit to imported to this region, or whether it would ever be made by Microsoft. Should an LTE version was available, I would have no qualms but grab one. It would replace my iPad for work bo doubt. Opportunity missed by Microsoft I thought. I was sure plenty more people would be interested in the LTE version.

I spent almost a couple of hours at Low Yat before driving back to Subang. I was still full to catch lunch. Got back to Subang by 2, dis my rounds and a procedure. Then off again.

Getting a free Thursday every once in a while was definitely welcomed. Not next week though. I have a meeting in Putrajaya next Thursday afternoon. No free time....‎

Morning Walk

The third day of Raya, and despite this not being a public holiday any longer, the city was still empty. Plenty of people were taking advantage of the long weekend and school holidays to spent time away from the office I was sure.

The tranquility was soon interrupted when we drove past Chow Kit. Bad idea to pass through there. A lot of people was around there - the majority being Indonesian. The place seemed like a Mini Jakarta this morning.

I had to settle some bills and do some shopping, so Anita and I went around Bukit Bintang this morning. We had brunch at one of the cafe - which was packed. The haze was improving and the sun was out. It started to rain however as soon as we drove home.

We did some packing afterwards before heading to the apartment to spent the evening there. Most of the stuff for the Penang trip was at the apartment and Anita felt that it would be easier to pack from there. Time to get some rest as I would be doing all the driving tomorrow morning.

Walk at Sungai Wang

Anita got her wish yesterday. I took the afternoon off to drive her to Sungai Wang. She wanted to buy some clothes there, as well as having a walk at Metrojaya there.

The place was surprisingly quiet even though the drive into the area was terrible. Combination of heavy traffic and roadwork was not kind.

Anita managed to get her stuff, while I walked around at Low Yat having a quick look around. Items of interest? The Sony RX100 mk 3 and the Samsung Note Pro. The Note had a very high resolution and the combination of portability, a slick keyboard cover as well as LTE as an option did strike my fancy. But my main issue was it running Android. For some reason, I wouldn't trust it for word processor as yet - yes, I use my iPad for word processing nowadays, with my trusty Logitech folio keyboard cover. And my iPad ran at LTE speed - most of the time.

Suffice to say, I didn't buy anything. I didn't plan to shop any way and I was not in the mood for clothes.

Maybe I should was until the Surface 3 Pro arrived before giving portable computing another look. It would be from Microsoft after all. But rumour had it that the version in Malaysia would be all wifi only. A shame.
