2011 Scott Kelby Photowalk, Part II

To continue from the photos uploaded yesterday, I thought I shall kick off from when I reached Masjid India area. As I mentioned, it had been a while since I last ventured around this area of Kuala Lumpur.

Since it was Sunday, the place was buzzing. My initial impression was that the place would be full of Indonesian vendors, but it turned out that they were mainly local. I did not have time to enter Wisma Yakin next door, but I did have biryani for lunch at one of the restaurant nearby.

This used to be a landmark building in KL. If I was not istaken, it used to be the headquarters of Bank Bumiputra. But unfortunately, this end of Jalan Ampang had lost its charm. Many of the once-proud buildings were now .... history.Crossing over towards Masjid India from Jalan Ampang. They served a mean biryani around here.

The place had a facelift in recent years. The street was turned into covered bazaar, almost similar to Petaling Street and Kasturi Walk. Very comfortable to walk around since you were shaded from the elements.

After a short stroll, I was already around the corner from the end point of the walk, Masjid Jamek.

The colour of Masjid IndiaLooking at you, looking at them. The welcoming facade of Masjid India Bazaar. And the insideTime for some drinks. At the vendors along Jalan Melayu, Masjid India. You would pass through this street walking towards Masjid Jamek.Reaching the end point with Kak Fauziah, Pak Rahmat, Adi and Kamarul.

The rest of the group had lunch at the Burger King outlet there. Adi, my cousin also joined us at the end point. We spent a good half an hour catching up before the whole party broke up.

Looking forward for the next chapter of the walk. Time now to upload my photo for the photowalk competition. The winner would win Photoshop CS5 and an iPad. Why not.

A Sunday Morning Around Central Market

After planning for so many days, everything finally fell into place on Sunday morning. The weather was gorgeous, there were hardly any traffic in town, and more importantly, I managed to wake up early that morning.

It was Sunday and it was early. The vendors were still setting up their stalls. Most of the work were just out in the open over night. I was sure there was security. And the artwork were pretty amazing. The mix of the rustic and new .....I set off from Central Market at around 9.30am and was already back home by 11. So where did I go?

I mingled around the street next to Central Market, called Kasturi walk. The vendors for the weekend market were just opening their stalls then. I then walked towards Lebuh Ampang, snapped more photos there, passing by Jalan HS Lee, before doubling back. Walked inside Central Market as the shops were being opened, before heading back home. Using the X100, people were less suspicious when I was snapping away. Handy.

Setting off by Lebuh Pudu, running parallel to Central Market. The eye-catching roof of Kasturi Walk. Nice and interesting. The stalls were just being opened. But sadly, the majority of the workers here were foreigners, kinda sucked as this was one of the hot tourist spots in town. This used to be a McDonald's outlet. I guessed the influx of foreign workers had something to do with this ....More stories as I ventured out a bit further.

The area around the market was still empty as on Sunday, it was normally filled by foreign workers meeting their friends and visiting shops around there. At 10am, it was still way to early. I only saw pockets of people ascending down. I was sure it would be packed by noon. The portal for this photowalk entry is here.

More X100 Loveliness

All the photographs were taken around Pavilion and Sungai Wang, right after I got hold of the camera. I must say that I was still not familiar with the real potential of the device. The main write-up is here.
